Ginny is from the small town of Bedford in the shadow of the Peaks of Otter in southern Virginia. Her rural upbringing no doubt plays an important role in inspiring her creativity, which over the years has expressed itself in many forms, most often linked to capturing the inherent beauty she finds in nature.
Like her mom, she enjoyed sewing and knitting for many years. Eventually, in the late 1970s, she started taking photography workshops and joined a local camera club. This then lead to taking drawing lessons, and eventually an interest in watercolor.
When I asked Ginny what brought her to watercolor, she answered "I'm allergic to oils, and I couldn't find anyone to teach me pastels. By happy chance your class was advertised at a time when I was ready to move from black and white drawing to a color medium."
So that's how we met, way back in 2003, and we have been journeying in creativity together ever since.
Ginny's short term goals include improving her drawing, painting and photography skills, as well as helping to organize displays of paintings and photographs at local community centers and public venues. And perhaps, like her aunt, she may even find the time to experiment with pastels, too, in between helping her grand kids and caring for her grand dogs.
It is indeed a privilege and a joy for me to be able to share Ginny's beautiful work with you. May we all, like Ginny, see the extraordinary beauty in the ordinary that surrounds us.
